The Model Review Assistant (Ask AI)

Ask AI about your assumptions, outputs, and review findings.

What is the Model Assistant?

The "Ask AI" button in your model's header opens the Model Assistant - a chat drawer where you can have a conversation about your financial model: ask questions, get explanations, and (in review mode) receive proposed assumption changes you can preview and apply.

Starting a Conversation

  1. Open your model and click Ask AI (top right)
  2. The Model Assistant drawer slides in with a composer - "Ask anything about your financial model..."
  3. Start from a quick reply or type your own question:
    • Summarize this model for an investor
    • What are the biggest risks?
    • How does our unit economics look?
    • How defensible is my Year 3 GMV growth assumption?

The assistant answers with your model's actual numbers in context, and the composer switches to "Ask a follow-up..." so you can dig in.

Review Mode: Proposed Changes You Approve

When you open the assistant from a review context, it becomes the Model Review Assistant and can go beyond conversation:

  • It proposes concrete assumption changes to resolve flagged issues
  • Changes appear as a reviewable list - "Review recommended changes" - with a checkbox per change
  • Select the ones you agree with and click Apply; the model recomputes and the applied changes are versioned like any other edit

You stay in control: nothing is applied without your explicit approval, and History preserves the before-state.

What to Use It For

  • Understanding flags - "Why is my fill rate flagged?" gets you the reasoning, not just the badge
  • Benchmark context - typical ranges for your stage and vertical, and how far off you sit
  • Trade-off thinking - "What happens to runway if I hire two engineers earlier?"
  • Investor framing - how to present a number that deviates from benchmark

Good Practice

  • Verify before you apply - the assistant is a strong reviewer, but it's your model; check proposed changes against your knowledge of the business
  • Prefer specific questions - "Is my Seller CAC of $270 defensible at Seed?" beats "Is my model good?"
  • Pair it with the formula explorer - the assistant explains; the explorer is often the fastest place to make the actual edit
