Importing Existing Data

Upload a spreadsheet, deck, or PDF — or describe the business in plain language — and review the extracted assumptions.

Overview

If you already have financial information - in your head, in a document, or in your accounting system - you don't have to retype it into a questionnaire. Radley Finance can pre-populate your model:

  1. Describe your business - explain your business in plain language and we extract assumptions
  2. Upload a document - a spreadsheet, pitch deck, or financial plan
  3. Import from Xero - coming soon

All three live inside the New Model modal: click New Model, choose your purpose and business type, then pick your starting point. Describing your business is offered directly on the start step; uploading and Xero are under "Create from existing".

Option 1: Describe Your Business

The fastest way to get starter assumptions without any files.

  1. On the start step, click "Describe your business"
  2. Tell us what you sell, your pricing, customers, and goals in plain language - the text box shows an example to get you going
  3. Click "Extract assumptions"
  4. Review what we heard - edit values, remove anything irrelevant, or start over
  5. Continue into the wizard with your extracted values pre-filled

Option 2: Upload a Document

The upload step Drag your file into the dropzone or click to browse.

  1. On the start step, click "Create from existing", then "Upload a document"
  2. Drop in a spreadsheet, pitch deck, or financial plan
  3. We parse it and extract assumptions for your review before anything is built

Supported files: .xlsx, .xls, .csv, .pdf, and .pptx, up to 20MB. Empty files and unsupported types are rejected with a clear message.

Option 3: Import from Xero (Coming Soon)

The "Import from Xero" option appears under "Create from existing" but is marked coming soon - it will pre-fill assumptions straight from your accounting actuals. In the meantime you can already connect your Xero account under Settings > Integrations so you're ready when it ships.

How Imported Values Are Marked

Wherever a value came from somewhere other than your own typing, the question carries a small badge:

  • Imported - extracted from your uploaded document or description
  • Xero - calculated from your connected Xero data
  • Researched / Template - found by our research assistant or from a starter template
  • Carried over - brought forward from your planning model when you upgrade

All badged values remain fully editable - the badges are provenance, not locks. The Review tab uses the same provenance to show how much of your model is your data versus defaults (see Understanding the Review Report).

Tips for Better Extraction

  • Spreadsheets: keep one metric per row with clear labels - "MRR", "Monthly orders", "Take rate"
  • Decks: the traction and business-model slides matter most
  • Descriptions: include numbers ("2,000 monthly orders at $45 AOV, 30% repeat rate") - concrete beats eloquent
  • Always review: extraction is a head start, not gospel. Fix anything we misread before you build.
